'Fred Wood' (qv) (born 26 October 1922 in Rotherhithe, London) is an English actor and supporting artist who has worked extensively in British films since the late 1940s until 2001 and television since the 1950s.Despite being based entirely in Britain, Fred has appeared in a large number of American films, due to filming taking place partly, or entirely in, Britain. His film credits include _Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)_ (qv), _The Elephant Man (1980)_ (qv), _From Russia with Love (1963)_ (qv), _1984 (1984)_ (qv), and _Oliver! (1968)_ (qv).Fred has appeared in a wide range of TV shows including _Danger Man (1960)_ (qv), _Gideon C.I.D. (1964)_ (qv), _The Professionals (1977)_ (qv), _The Baron (1966)_ (qv), and _Gone to Seed (1992)_ (qv) and also due to his distinctive, emaciated appearance, he has appeared as a character performer of motion pictures also seen on film and television; often seen in horror productions.Due to his long period in both film and television he has worked at many of Britain's earliest and greatest film studios including Greenpark Productions, Gainsborough, Bray, Denham, Elstree, Shepperton, Ealing, and Pinewood.Fred along with many of his colleagues past and present also worked with a large number of our greatest directors and leading actors and actresses of the period including 'Ken Annakin' (qv), 'Alfred Hitchcock' (qv), 'Albert Finney' (qv), 'John Boulting' (qv), 'Michael Winner' (qv), 'Terry Gilliam' (qv), 'George Lucas' (qv), 'Richard Attenborough' (qv), and 'Stanley Kubrick' (qv).Fred is best known as 'Fred Wood' (qv)s by those who knew and worked with him.::Michael Lewes Wood
