Berlin Lu

Berlin is a Writer, Director, Actor and was born in Melbourne, Australia. His mother was an Elementary Teacher and was born in Xiamen, China. His father was once a Russian interpreter for Chairman Mao and was born in Wuhan, China. As a child, Berlin watched "A Beautiful Mind" which opened his eyes to his mother's schizophrenia as both an illness and a gift. At 12 years old, he became a caregiver to his mother and his father with dementia who later went missing and died just days before Berlin's 16th birthday. Determined to make his mother proud, Berlin graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne and was a Senior Consultant at KPMG for 4 years.However, he yearned to recreate himself as an Actor. After performing in amateur theatres, indie films and a TV show in Australia, he decided to pursue acting seriously and continue taking care of his mother by bringing her to Vancouver, Canada in late 2016. He has since played various TV/Film characters in "Supernatural", "iZombie" and "The World is Bright" as the Lead Actor in the real-life portrayal of "Shi Ming" - a Chinese immigrant suffering from schizophrenia who committed suicide after being mistreated by the Canadian immigration.In early 2020, Berlin was an Executive Producer on "Cosmic Sin", a Bruce Willis film about ending an interstellar war. And in September 2020, Berlin finished making 'She Made Me" as the Writer and Director of a short film about a young Chinese-Canadian songwriter who struggles to take care of his schizophrenic mother and to be a shining example for his 8 year old sister.
