Bimal Roy

'Bimal Roy' (qv) (July 12, 1909 - January 8, 1966) was an Indian film director. He is particularly noted for his realistic and socialistic films such as _Zwei Hektar Land (1953)_ (qv), _Bandini (1963)_ (qv), _Biraj Bahu (1954)_ (qv), _Madhumati (1958)_ (qv) which he employed to portray realism. He won a number of awards throughout his career, including eleven Filmfare 'Awards' (qv), two National Film 'Awards' (qv), and the International Prize of the Cannes Film Festival. Madhumati won 9 Filmfare 'Awards' (qv) in 1958, a record held for 37 years.::BonaFideBOSS
