Thomas Mitchell

'Thomas Mitchell' (qv) was one of the great American character actors, whose credits read like a list of the greatest American films of the 20th century: _Lost Horizon (1937)_ (qv); _Stagecoach (1939)_ (qv); _The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939)_ (qv); _Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)_ (qv); _Gone with the Wind (1939)_ (qv); _It's a Wonderful Life (1946)_ (qv) and _High Noon (1952)_ (qv). His portrayals are so diverse and convincing that most people don't even realize that one actor could have played them all.
