Jack La Rue
بیوگرافی
Discovered on Broadway by director 'Howard Hawks' (qv), La Rue was originally brought to Hollywood to play a gangster in _Scarface (1932)_ (qv). He lost that role to 'George Raft' (qv), and similarly was replaced by 'Humphrey Bogart' (qv) in the film version of _The Petrified Forest (1936)_ (qv). Eventually, he became well-known to movie-goers as a mean, sexy gangster type in sadistic roles like 'Miriam Hopkins' (qv)' abductor in _The Story of Temple Drake (1933)_ (qv). Film audiences, who loved to loathe him on-screen, were occasionally surprised by his being cast against type in such movies as _A Farewell to Arms (1932)_ (qv). His final film was in the low-budget film _Paesano: A Voice in the Night (1975)_ (qv).::Tom Shorthouse & MO840
