Sandy-haired Welsh actor who served in the RAF during World War II and hit paydirt and stardom with his first two British films, _The Blue Lagoon (1949)_ (qv) with 'Jean Simmons' (qv), and _A Run for Your Money (1949)_ (qv) with Sir 'Alec Guinness' (qv), maintaining his career with lesser distinction in bawdy comedies and melodramas. His characters were authority figures, often military in war movies like _Battle Hell (1957)_ (qv), _The Longest Day (1962)_ (qv) and _Where Eagles Dare (1968)_ (qv) (the latters with 'Richard Burton' (qv)).::Angelo Bellino
