
Bob Hastings

'Bob Hastings' (qv) got his show business start in radio after WWII as the voice of "Archie Andrews" in the show of the same name (a spin-off of the Archie Comics series) on the Mutual Broadcasting System. The good-looking Hastings made the transition to television smoothly in 1949 in early galactic-action series like _Captain Video and His Video Rangers (1949)_ (qv) and _Atom Squad (1953)_ (qv). His first recurring role was as a lieutenant on _The Phil Silvers Show (1955)_ (qv) (aka "Sgt. Bilko").Most of his career has been spent in television, and he's notable for roles such as Captain Binghamton's yes-man "Lieutenant Elroy Carpenter" on _McHale's Navy (1962)_ (qv), one of the two Tommy Kelsey's on _All in the Family (1971)_ (qv), and "Captain Ramsey" on _General Hospital (1963)_ (qv). Hastings has also done much voice work, including that of "The Raven" on _The Munsters (1964)_ (qv), "Superboy" on the _The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure (1967)_ (qv) cartoons in the 1960s and, in recent years, the voice of "Commissioner Gordon" on the animated _Batman: The Animated Series (1992)_ (qv) cartoons.::Tom Barrister.
