Born and raised on the banks of Dale Hollow Lake near Celina, Tennessee. James received a football scholarship to Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky; majored in Communications and Theology. He joined the Marines just a month before 9/11. Two combat tours to Iraq 2004 & 2006. After the military James graduated from the University of Southern California's (USC) School of Dramatic Arts in 2013 with a MFA in Theatre.
