Betty Amann

Born in Germany to American parents, dark-haired 'Betty Amann' (qv) (born Philippine Amann) grew up in the US. She began her screen career as Bee Amann in the mid-'20s, but returned to Germany after appearing in a 'Tom Tyler' Western for low-budget FBO Pictures. Arriving in the wake of 'Louise Brooks' (qv), she was awarded a screen test by producer 'Erich Pommer' (qv) and went on to star or co-star in such German productions as 'Joe May' (qv)'s silent _Asphalt (1929)_ (qv) and the talkies _The White Devil (1930)_ (qv)-- opposite 'Lil Dagover' (qv) and 'Ivan Mozzhukhin' (qv)--and _Die kleine Schwindlerin (1933)_ (qv), opposite 'Dolly Haas' (qv). She later did _Daughters of Today (1933)_ (qv) in England, but was back in Hollywood by the mid-'30s, where she mainly appeared in "Poverty Row" productions. Her final appearance came in 'Edgar G. Ulmer' (qv)'s bizarre _Isle of Forgotten Sins (1943)_ (qv) for rock-bottom PRC Pictures as one of 'Gale Sondergaard' (qv)'s "hostesses."::Mark Lee (qv's & corrections by A. Nonymous)
