'Catherine Dent' (qv) arrested audiences as "Officer Danni Sofer" in _The Shield (2002)_ (qv), playing a single woman in a world that understands brutality more than beauty. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and trained at the North Carolina School of the Arts, Dent made her film debut in 1994, playing 'Paul Newman' (qv)'s daughter-in-law in 'Robert Benton' (qv)'s _Nobody's Fool (1994)_ (qv). Since then she has appeared in a number of features, co-starring opposite 'Greg Kinnear' (qv) in 'Paul Schrader' (qv)'s _Auto Focus (2002)_ (qv), starring opposite 'Jean-Claude Van Damme' (qv) in _Replicant (2001)_ (qv), playing 'Ashley Judd' (qv)'s sister in 'Tony Goldwyn' (qv)'s romantic comedy _Someone Like You (2001)_ (qv) and appearing with 'Jim Carrey' (qv) in 'Frank Darabont' (qv)'s _The Majestic (2001)_ (qv). Her independent film credits include appearances in _A Girls' Guide to Sex (1990)_ (qv), _Jaded (1998)_ (qv), A New Game (2001), _The Debutante (1993)_ (qv) and _Dangerous Proposition (1998)_ (qv).When she was based in New York, Dent appeared frequently on East Coast-based based television shows including _The Sopranos (1999)_ (qv), _Third Watch (1999)_ (qv), _Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999)_ (qv) and _New York Undercover (1994)_ (qv).
