Virginia Cherrill

Actress in US and UK films of the early 1930s. Born on a farm, Cherrill was discovered by 'Charles Chaplin' (qv) while sitting beside him at a boxing match in Los Angeles; he introduced himself at intermission and hired her for her debut in _City Lights (1931)_ (qv). She met husband 'Cary Grant' (qv) at the premiere of _Blonde Venus (1932)_ (qv) and stopped working after their marriage in 1933. At one time, lived in England as the wife of the Earl of Jersey.
