Jan wrote, directed, and produced his next feature film RUNNING AGAINST THE WIND (2019), Ethiopia's official Oscar entry in the category "Best International Feature"; it received the prestigious Bernhard Wicki German Film Award for Peace. RUNNING AGAINST THE WIND is on Netflix Africa and distributed by Samuel Goldwyn in the U.S. and Canada.In 2016 he was a student at The Rogue Film School founded by the legendary German filmmaker Werner Herzog, who has been a mentor to Jan ever since.Jan was also a participant at famed Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami's Masterclass Workshop in Cuba at the Escuela International de Cine y Television EICTY.His feature film shot in Cuba BUENA VISTA CHICO (2016) was made under the wings of Executive Producer Abbas Kiarostami. The film is still unreleased after the sudden death of Abbas Kiarostami.He studied Film Production and Media Business at University of Television and Film (HFF) Munich, and Anthropology & Art History at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, and has worked as an assistant director and unit manager on more than forty films, television shows, and commercials.HUMANISTIC ACTIVITIES Karlheinz Böhm personally invited Jan to Ethiopia to see the development projects of his foundation Menschen für Menschen after he raised 23.500 Euros donations as an 8th grade student.
